It was the second day of Dakar Rally 2011, which provides all the racers a chance to show their competitiveness. Great Wall Motors racer Zhou Yong is getting more accustomed to the racing car, HAVAL SUV. As is planned, Zhou Yong is going ahead along with HAVAL confidently. After the first stage, Great Wall Loong Racing Team was ranked 85th, and Zhou Yong was the second Chinese driver to pass the finishing line.

In spite of different courses for cars and motorcycles, road conditions are nearly the same. As the defending champion, Sainz made a good start in the first stage, legendary racer Peterhansel was right behind. The 2 favorite racers and teams started a “tit to tat” fight at the very beginning.

Zhou Yong from Great Wall Motors Loong Racing Team is the 85th to finish the game on the second day, with a performance of 3 hours and 20 minutes, which is the second best record among all of the Chinese racers. Up to 8 pm of local time, Liu Kun was the only racer from chery Racing Team to finish the game, with a record of 3 hours 24 minutes. He was placed No. 93. The other 2 Chinese racers, Guo Hongzhi and Ma Junkun were separately placed No. 97 and No. 109.

In the first place, Great Wall Motors racer Zhou Yong already confirmed the strategy of getting used to the racing car for the first half Dakar Rally. As is expected, the performance on the second day wouldn’t be taken seriously. As a matter of fact, he didn’t seem to care about the position now. As an experienced Dakar driver, he deeply knows that results make little sense initially. At the beginning of the game, several minutes could make a difference of more than 10 positions. Once the game in desert courses begins, gaps of one stage among racers would be calculated by hours.

Prior to the official game, Zhou Yong had only driven HAVAL for 200 km. Therefore, he is not so familiar with some of the functions. After the first stage, he got to know more about the engine and suspension system of HAVAL. “Now I am getting used to the car!” Zhou Yong told us with a satisfying smile, at the maintenance area.
