Australia is recognized as an international medium-high-end market featuring very strict requirements on product quality. Vehicles exported to Australia should be subject to strict ADR certification. Many ADR provisions are equivalent to ECE regulations in the European Union. Australia also features some unique regulatory provisions, such as ADR 34/01 (child seat fixing device), ADR 69/00 (full front bumping), etc. These items should be tested in full accordance with the ADR standards for issuance of corresponding certificates or reports. It is the reason why ADR certification should not be less strict than the EU ADR certification. It is even more stringent than the EU certification to some extent. Many car brands are kept away from entering Australia due to the series of rigorous certification.

It is reported that Great Wall Motors entered into the Australian market successfully in June 2009. As the first Chinese SUV brand sold in Australia, HAVAL SUV overtook kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson in 2010 and became a well-known SUV brand sold in Australia with an average monthly sale of more than 700 vehicles. In April 2010 alone, more than 1000 Wingle pickups were ordered. In August 2010, the Wingle single cabin model was launched in the Australian market and became another significant growth highlight of the Great Wall Motors’ sales in Australia.

The most important reasons why HAVAL and Wingle can be exported to the Australian market in large quantities include the Great Wall Motors’ design and development concept of synchronization with global standards and the world-class quality of HAVAL and Wingle. In December 2009, HAVAL and Wingle underwent multiple strict tests and obtained the EU Whole Vehicle Type Approval (WVTA). In April 2010, HAVAL passed Australia’s A-Ncap 4-star crash standard, achieving the crash results same to that of Toyota RAV4, Hyundai Tucson and Nissan X-Trial crash, which proved the Great Wall Motors’ world-class quality once again. Toyota, Hyundai, and Nissan had operated in the Australian market successfully for decades. The Great Wall Motors has been well positioned in competing with other auto brands with its world-class quality and high cost-effectiveness. In addition to HAVAL and Wingle, VOLEEX C10 in the VOLEEX series will enter into this market in the second half of the year 2011.

By the end of 2010, Great Wall Motors owns more than 60 exclusive stores in Australia. 20 more exclusive stores will be opened in 2011. It is expected that the Great Wall Motors will export 12,000 vehicles to Australia in 2011. The participation of the HAVAL SUV diesel automatic model, the four-wheel drive Wingle pickup, and other new models will further boost the boom of local sales.
